16 11 05 20:39Bikegen, Chapter 2

Here is the next installment in what is sure to be a riveting saga; how I rig up a bicycle-driven power station. In Chapter 2 we learn that nothing will be as it was thoughtfully planned in Chapter 1.

Chapter 2 - It's never that easy

15 11 05 21:24Mo' content: bike-powered generator

In the wake of recent natural disasters I have been considering my ability to respond to utility interruptions, especially electrical. I have decided to take matters into my own hands and detail my steps to create an electrical power plant out of an old exercycle and a used automotive alternator.

14 11 05 18:22Dicking with the site

While everything is running pretty good here I sure would like to eliminate some little issues, like the different line spacing of entries on the front page.  I have also added some stuff and did a little tweaking. ...read more

14:24My first (documented) religious rant

Kansas Board of Education Adopts Intelligent Design
(from the "why-do-they-have-to-use-the-word-intelligent" department)

Warning!  Long, angry, vitriolic rant follows!  Anyone who knows me would be shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU!  ;)

10 11 05 20:59US Festival 1983 Heavy Metal Day reminiscence

In facing the monumental list I have been keeping over the last few months of things I wanted to do with my web site, one of them was to document my experience at one of the most monumental rock shows is history, and how I thought I was gonna die there.

08 11 05 00:02Fucking spammers!!

This site was finally "comment spammed"; every single blog entry was given a new comment that promoted these spamming asshole's websites.  The good part is it is easy to clean up that shit using the blog software I run here, the bad part is it is simply a nasty harbinger of the future.  I can't believe I got spammed with only three major pages active!  I assume it will get a lot worse once the site becomes more popular.  I better start studying how to use the spam prevention tools that come with my blog software.  :(

02 11 05 18:21Fun with the "Last Referrers" sidebar

I was surprised to see search engines are already picking up my meager content, and mildly surprised to find why; the search term "imic circuit" gets my bio page as the #2 link!

30 11 05 08:00Homebrew 3D laser scanner

Man, the extreme teknohacks just keep coming. This guy made a 3D laser scanner system out of a line laser, a webcam, a PC-controlled stepper motor system and a little homebrew software. He does not give you construction plans or firmware, as he wants to encourage people to make the system better by doing it themselves. He explains the theory and his general construcion in great detail, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone takes him up on the challenge.

21 11 05 09:43Someone modded the iTrip LCD!

I love stuff like this, especially when it is on one of "my" products. This is your basic "crack the case and extend the antenna" mod. Not at all technical, and fun for all ages, so all iTrip LCD owners should take a peek.

17 11 05 08:54Now you know the horrible truth

I love those guys at Despair.com! Back in the day that Griffin was cool I spent an evening with Paul ordering about $300 worth of posters for the office (some of which we never did have the guts to display). This is one of their newer posters. Very cool joke about engineers. Everyone go buy one.
