News flash: Chimps are better at independant thinking than humans
A major news organization (that likes to hold people up for a subscription to read ridiculously basic and thin web news reports worthy of a high school flyer) reported on a study that found chimpanzees seem to exhibit a better understanding of cause and effect than human children. The study found while training chimps to perform a routine task with redundant steps, the chimps were able to figure out and eliminate the redundant steps, while the human children routinely performed them despite their evident uselessness.
I would LOVE to know what percentage of children, if any, actually broke the mold and eliminated the redundant steps just as the monkeys did. One could argue that if NONE of the children did so, then the test wasn't entirely fair as it could imply the human children were so smart they could do what they were told to even when they knew it made no sense. In that respect these children appear to be solidly prepared for life in the corporate world, while the monkeys are clearly poised to take over the planet. I for one welcome our simian rulers!
